My PS3 dosen't upscale regular DVDs, mabye theres a setting, i've never gone looking for it.
As for a bluray player its really not bad, takes a little while to start (5~10 seconds from cold), the controller is a rather useless remote, if you catch one of hte buttons on the underside, you skip chapter, not nice. Quality of the bluray i've found to be great, this is at 1080p. As costs go, its not that bad if you want to play games too (pitty there aren't many
