I had an s5600, and it was great for a pre-DSLR camera. it gives you more of the functions you'd get on a DSLR than a normal compact, which lets you experiment and find out what the settings do and the effects you can get.
The only thing i found was that, since i really wanted it for mainly gig photography, it wasnt that great in the dark at high ISOs, but in plenty of light it took some crackin' shots!
definitely great value for money!
