| Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners Clunk, thanks for the guide. Yesterday I recieved delivery of a brand, spanking, shiny new Q6600 (G0) and Asus PK5-E mobo and today decided to search for a newbie's overclocking guide. Voila!, a step-by-step walkthrough with pics. Brilliant. But...
I'm having problems getting past the initial stages, namely changing the DRAM frequency and FSB. I'm quite prepared to accept blame -- I am, after all, an overclocking virgin.
To make matters a little bit more confusing I'm using the 0503 bios (necessary for the latest chips, I believe) and the bios screens are different from the ones posted in the tutorial.
Here's some caps to illustrate.
EDIT: OK, I can't post any caps until I've made a few more posts. Drat. OK, well, in the meantime, let me explain as best as I can with mere words...
I was able to change the memory timings as shown at the beginning of the guide. The problem begins after that when you talk about changing the DRAM frequency. Even thought my FSB shows as 266, I can only change my DRAM freq to 667, 800, 889 or 1067.
I notice too that the FSB setting will not budge (despite the bios information on the right saying it can be changed from anywhere 200 to 800 or thereabouts). No matter if I press Enter or left/right, it won't budge. I get the feeling this is due to the fact I haven't been able to make good with the DRAM bit. But that's just a guess.
Any clues? Shame I can't post the pictures to show how the different bios screens -- a lot of functions appear to have moved places, been renamed, etc.
Anyway, thanks for your time in advance. |
