You've given me some food for thought - You are correct about the Asus Maximus Formula SE being discontinued (according to Yoyotech). I must admit cancelling a MB just over a month after it's release does give me some concern when it comes to support.
To help a layman like me can you tell me what is a better overclocker between the Abit and the Asus Maximus Formula SE
So either I stay with the Abit which I am tempted to do (unlike Asus they don't churn out dozens of MBs a year - Which give me some hope for long term support)
Or I go for a standard Asus Maximus Formula or even go for the Extreme but that means DDR3 ram which in the long run seems to be the way to go
Well I'm going to make my mind up tonight and trade in one way or another tomorrow
Many thanks

I've just RMA'd my Abit IX38 Quad GT and purchased the Maximus Formula SE in the end. The SE Maximus was ALWAYS going to be discontinued. It is not a shock or anything sinister LOL. It is a special edition... only done in limited quantity for the boards release. This was pre-planned before release and part of the 'Hype' about the board. There is a non-special edition out now. The SE version is the same but has a pre-installed Waterblock joined to heatpipe on Northbridge. Unless they have stopped the normal Maximus Formula also.
If my needs replacing under warranty then atleast I know I have to get simular spec or higher so in this case under Republic of Gamers edition boards it would probably be one of the new 2008 released 48 boards
Strange we are in the same boat about changing boards with same two in mind. Good luck anyway!
My main reason to RMAing the ABIT one was the unusual hole placing for the northbridge as i couldn't find a waterblock to fit it which was terribly fustrating and there is more Maximus boards out there for support from other users than the ABIT.
Good luck whatever you do mate
