Agreed it is not necessary. Personally I have a few points to make on this thread:
1. The power button "accidental" is non-intutive. Now I know that I can live with it.
2. Spin down is important on a consumer device as whilst disk reliability is good I do wish to avoid coming near to the MTBF
But most importantly the device needs to kept in context with its price. It is only 100GBP, a QNAP equivalent is £230 and the next nearest reasonable transfer performance is the Zyxel NSA-220 at around £160. A Synology is approx £210. The only other device within the price range is the Icybox NAS4220 which is a lot larger.
My only wish would be that Thecus drop Mediabolics and provide Twonky instead. Mediabolics just does not compare...
