CAD in my experience isn't that demanding at all if it's 2D.
3D becomes a different story. It eats processors, RAM and Graphics as well as needing lots of hard drive space (where fast drives are useful for loading etc..).
I built one recently for the same purpose.
Q6600 + scythe ninja
4GB RAM
Abit IP-35
8800GTS 640MB (before the new card were out)
Antec P182
Corsair 520w HX
2 x Western Digital AAKS (RAID 1 for nervous user)
