I remember having the exact same conversation with some of my friends about 6 or 7 years ago.
I used to listen to a fair bit of Radio 1, but gave up around that time, convinced that their playlist was a lot smaller than it used to be (plus I find most of the current DJs incredibly tedious).

I So if you are having the same thoughts now, then it's got to be one two things
1) Radio 1 has got even narrower in their playlist (ye gods!)
2) We're just all getting old

As others have said, there's still plenty of decent music around, you just need to cast the net a bit wider. 6music is good, but being DAB / online I don't listen to it anywhere near as much as I would like. Most of my music discoveries these days come from either last.fm or recomendations on forums.
