With your GPU budget the new ATI cards may definately be a worthwhile wait and should be better than anything you can currently get in that budget, the new nvidia ones are likely to be too expensive with that cash.
Make sure you put the I/O panel
on before you put the motherboard in, has caused me so much hassle forgetting that little thing. Don't forget the motherboard standoffs aswell or you will have a lovely short circuit.
