Yvon.
I think you're missing the point. Either model is DISMALLY slow, based on what is advertised. Even with properly configured gigabit ethernet, the n2100 with the "new, faster" firmware barely breaks over the limit for 100mb ethernet,
especially for large files. The speed tests from the smallnetbuilder link you provided bears this out. In fact, for large files, the performance dips BELOW the 12.5 Mbyte limit, even on GB ethernet... GB ethernet is supposed to have a maximum throughput of 125 Mbytes per second!!!! This is according the to info at the link
you provided! Please accept my apologies if I am misinterpreting the results, but I don't think I am.
The point is, that even under optimal conditions, the n2100 (and clearly the n299 also) are providing ridiculously substandard speeds for GB ethernet, and it is VERY misleading to advertise them as "gigabit ethernet" when they only attain (top) transfer speeds at or around the maximum for 100MB ethernet. When you advertise that they have "gigabit ethernet", that creates certain expectations on the customers part. Namely, that it will actually PERFORM at these speeds.
On the other hand, having owned an n2100 for nearly two years, I am pleased with the wide range of modules that are available for it (many apparently
user-created, I should add). And I should also note that the pathetic speeds are my sole disappointment with the unit.
