It may be justified, but might not show you in the best light if you choose to send further letters to the press as well. I gave it some thought already as my girlfriend agrees with you, however I think its very tongue in cheek and if he doesn't get that it should make for an all the more entertaining reply. If I get a reply this time that is, if not I will be following up with an 'argument won by me by default' letter to really get his back up.
Oh and also, I posted this on my local residents forum and a guy who lives near me works for a local paper and fancies doing a story on it, I will have to think about it a bit more and have a chat with him first.
