Re: New Lens for Nikon D40

Yep i was looking into that - it looks to be about 50 for a 400mm prime for a week. So that might be the way to go

Are these guys any good, do you know?

(thought i might have a look at the teleconverter as well )

EDIT:

I was looking at the Sigma 70-300mm and possibly either getting/renting a 1.4x teleconverter, since it's online for about £115. Although whether the autofocus will be fast/necessary i don't know. Since most of the shots are going to be either taking off/landing, then i guess i can focus manually for a lot of it.

One thing though, a lot of the reviews online comment that's it's quite soft at 200-300, as well as the focus being a bit slow/noisy. Any chance of this being a bit better with HSM? I presume that'll make it quieter, but whether it's faster or not.. Most of the reviews were done in 2005 when it was released, and i would have thought it would've improved a bit since then.
