interesting enough a look into the source of firmware 1.00.28 shows that hdparm is already included. There should be no problem to send something like "hdparm -s ...." to the harddisks (I could do it manually if I had access to the box by telnet...). And obviously all excuses of Thecus about not being able to add spindown due to missing memory, cpu power etc. are simple ... no, I will not use the word I have in mind.
