Re: Net firms in music pirates deal
My stance is still the same as usual. In general, I have no problem with the rich getting richer for what they do, so long as what they do is morally sound. Illegally file-sharing is not morally sound in my book. However, nor is charging the full cost of the same copyrighted material as many times as the storage medium changes. I believe that the people should only have to pay for the right to listen the material once, and if they want to have it in another physical format, they should be allowed to get it at a small cost (say the cost of producing and distributing the physical item, as well as a *small* premium for the new technology). They should also be allowed to freely convert in whatever digital format they choose, so long as it is for personal use (within reason, obviously it should be acceptable for someone to play the music on the PC when friends are present for instance).
It's won't be easy to implement such system, and to be honest, it won't stop piracy. So I don't expect to ever see anything like this being implemented. But I consider this a reasonable compromise based on my own viewpoint.
