Yes, but then you are limited to the old TV engine, and that isn't maintaned anymore.
You can use MySQL or SQLServer. Setup isn't that bad now, they have a decent installer app that goes out and downloads all the required componets from MS, like .NET, SQLServer, SQL Management Console etc.
