OK, Solved the problem myself. It seems the operating system is located on the disc, it was this that was corupted so i transferred all the files I wanted to keep, off the N299, removed the drive and deleted all the partitions. Reinstalled the drive and set up from new again. Now I just have to retransfer all my files back.
