Not sure i understand this. GPRS handshaking at the start of a session will do a few things.Its like DHCP on a mobile operator subnet, and will attempt to assign a IP address and depending on the implementation may ask to communicate on a specific port number. But that should be transparent to your applications as when you want to access the internet it should simply go via the GPRS connection. Maybe more information would help us understand what the issue is?...

What you have to remember and it might be why you are getting problems is that you are likely being assigned a internal network address, e.g 10.0.0.1, which means you will be unable to communicate directly with your device. Unless the mobile network operator has external addresses that map with a specific port number to your device. This again depends on Network operator.
