I didn't know the SP2 disks could handle SATA controllers, but it certainly makes sense if Microsoft have decided to sort that one out.
This guide was created over a year ago with people with the original Windows disks in mind though. Also, the only way that the Windows SP2 disk will detect the SATA drives is by having the appropriate controller drivers integrated. I'm sure there will be controllers that are not supported already, never mind a few months down the line. The described technique allows for that kind of 'update' to your disk to be made as well.
