Both handle 4 SATA drives and RAID 0,1 and 5. The X6 however lets you add one drive at a time and will re-configure the raid to suit. You can also up the capacity of the array by replacing one drive at a time until they are all larger then it will span the lot. very clever.

Sorely tempted with the Qnap right now (more affordable) but would like an X6 as a general NAS solution in the future too.
Thanks for the link re the cooltopia option. Just a tad out of my price range at the moment.
