For a start, when running game servers, Linux is a far better choice - mainly due to higher uptime - eg the core kernel can be patched without a restart in some cases.
Secondly, is the question of support - what happens when/if something goes wrong - are you planning to run to london, or are you going to pay someone else to do it for you. This is one of the major issues which put me off buying a dedicated box between me & some mates, and with people like e-frag and the like, prices are dropping significantly.
Sorry if it seems to put a downer on things, and in a perfect world (or Sweden) we could all host our own CS Servers, but in reality its a lot more hassle than its worth. That is unless you are willing to bear the cost and gain something from it - like a new skill, or a possible side earner.
