Possibly, but if I put "****" would you instantly think I said the F word? there is thousands of words in the English dictionary that have 4 letters.
Even in the world of TV generally people find it perfectly acceptable to swear as long as it's beeped (even though you hear the F, or S, etc), and when it's subtitled it will either be purely stars counting the amount of letters, or the first letter and the rest being stars.
Of course you can express yourself without swearing, but it's just nature pretty much to swear if your angry/stressed/ranting about things.
