You need to install an earlier versions of uguru, don't worry about uninstalling the current version. The old should just overide it.

The latest version of uguru was really design for vista and seems to have a few bugs in XP.

Sean, it is not really correct to say that 3.101 has any bugs in XP. It works flawlessly on XP when installed fresh, rather than as an upgrade to a previous version, while the version of FlashMenu included in this 3.101 package actually has a serious bug on Vista.

If uGuru 3.1x was designed for Vista specifically, why does it include a new XP driver, and why is it now the only version of uGuru to appear on the various Abit website download pages? It appears from this that it was intended as an upgrade/replacement for the earlier version of the utility on all OSes.

Where the 3.101 release does have a bug is in its installer. It does not check for the existence of and fully uninstall the old driver and uGuru version before installing the new one. It is this issue that is causing the problem riki and many others are experiencing.

There is also, as mentioned, a bug in the version of Flashmenu 1.5.0.2 when run on Vista that, in the best case, makes it look like the utility has crashed half-way through a BIOS flash. In the worst case, on the USA forum there is evidence that at least one user has lost a BIOS chip as a result of this errata.

It would be really helpful if you could pass details of these two issues onto Abit FAE central as both need fixing semi-urgently.

Riki, there is not unfortunately a simple fix to this issue. As mentioned above there is a bug in 3.101's installer that causes a conflict when you try and upgrade an older version of uGuru. The problem obviously doesn't present, and the utility works fine, if you are installing 3.101 on a system that has not previously had the utility installed.

One guaranteed way to fix it would be to reinstall XP, or to roll back to a restore point prior to when you originally installed uGuru. Obviously this may not be a practical option, so in this case your only practical move would be to manually remove all traces of the uGuru software and driver from your system.

Remove the suite via the uninstaller in Add/Remove programs, and then set about removing any remaining folders from \Program Files. You then need to adios the uguru.sys hardware driver wherever you find it, and then trawl the registry searching for all references to uGuru, and deleting the appropriate keys.

This should, if you get everything, bring you to a point where you can successfully install uGuru 3.101 without any issues. Alternatively, you could hang fire until, hopefully, Abit fix the installer in the next release.

ABIT HQ are already aware of the issue but are currently closed for chinese new year. Im sure they will work on the issues as soon as the return to normal operation.

As I mentioned before abit HQ is closed for chinese new year, so may not get a response straight away. What you need to do is install a older version of uguru. Whithout uninstalling the current one.

Follow the link and download version 3.038
    ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/u...s/uguru/3.038/

I've installed the older version and it does not override the current version it just installing itself at another folder in program files (the newer version is in "U-ABIT" and the older is in "ABIT")
But now I can use the newer version without any error MSG
I still don't see it as a good situation...

I had to strip out the program and registry entries manually. I found no other way of getting rid of it.

    DOn't hold your breath.

In my experience ABIT never ever responded to Black Box queries.

Its a gimmick thats never taken any notice of.
