That´s exactly the problem. When I saw the price of the E8400, I was ready to order. But then I saw the delivery time.... Well, could´nt wait for that. Has gone as far as I think I can, with my current E6600, something new to play with is needed. So... Now I´ll try with a quad, my first. And a G0 SLACR should be fun enough. Also ordered a new CPU-cooler, Thermalright Ultra120 Extreme, so I´ve got hopes for some nice OC. Also about to upgrade/change my gfx, but am in a bit of a dilemma here. Should I opt for a nice 8800GT, and OC the h*ll out of it, or should I rape my bank-account and go 9800GTX.... Aww! My `ead hurts !!! But speed six, when you get your E8400 up and running on your QuadGT, please let us know, how it fares. VERY interested.

Ps. And speed six, could´nt you fill out the "My system". I´m curious....

    Pps. 09/04-08 - Now with 9800GTX.

Ppps. 10/04-08 - Now also with Q6600 SLACR and Ultra120-Extreme

As per my response in the Hardware forum I flashed the Beta BIOS on my QuadGT over the long weekend and installed an E8200. It has been running faultlessly since but most of the options are still on auto/default. I've overclocked to 3200 for the interim until I have enough time to tweak and test it properly. The same CPU when it was installed on my main PC was running fine at 4GHz but it required a fair amount of voltage. I'll be happy with 3.6GHz as the HTPC needs to stay cool as well!

I think it's time to purchase an E8500

Does any of you have problems running 8 GB RAM (two sets of 2x2 GB RAM) with your AB9 QuadGT?

I know that my board does not have any problems with me using up all 4 RAM slots. Before I installed 8 GB RAM I ran 4 x 1 GB.

But after I installed 8 GM RAM the computer will not boot any more. The computer goes into power safe mode the minute I start the machine

tbh I doubt that many are running 8Gb on the QuadGT.
However, have you tried adjusting MCH voltage etc.?

Would I likely see an real performance benefit replacing my two year old E6700 running like a rock at 3.56 on my AB9 Quad GT with a Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600 G0 SLACR CPU will probably run at 3.30Ghz (might I get 3.5?) or should I just keep the £150 it would cost for a bigger and better upgrade (i7 - but won't be for a year or so I guess)?

Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

What do you use your system for?

If it's gaming, stick with the faster clock speed of the duo.
If its multimedia (such as video encoding, 3d rendering etc) go wit the quad.

    Zakkly what he said.
because tbh if you have a rock steady overclock on a good Core2, you're already flying along

Thanks chaps, that is what I kinda thought - I use my system for general stuff, flight sims (mainly R/C Flight sims, thought I do have FSX I don't use it really, and Combat Flight sims I use sometimes, photo editing with Photoshop eliments, not video editing. I will keep it as it is.

I ended up keeping my E6600 and not going for a Q6600 & I'm glad I did tbh. It works flawlessly, iy's fast enough to play all the games I want and it's stable.
