Overclocking my Q6600 on IP35-Pro
Now that my system is running stable, cool and quiet, I would like to overclock it to 3.0GHz if possible, just to see what difference it makes.
I have the following key components: - CPU: Q6600 G0 with Thermalright Utra 120 eXtreme heatsink - Motherboard: Abit IP35-Pro - Memory: 4 x 1GB GeIL PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 - HDD: A couple of old WD Raptors (74GB) So, how do I go about getting 3.0GHz from that setup. I'm assuming it should be fairly easy to do? Do I make changes in the BIOS or in uGuru? If anyone knows of a simple step-by-step guide to overclocking the Abit IP35-Pro then please direct me to it! I have looked at the sticky thread in this forum but that doesn't seem to be a guide, unless i'm mistaken. |

But try what I did first to see if it works for you ![]() |

You will also be advised to set your ram to 1:1 divider.

Re: Overclocking my Q6600 on IP35-Pro
^ Thanks, will give it a go. I messed up the memory settings yerterday when I was messing around and had to clear the CMOS! Luckily there's a very handy switch in the back panel to do this on the IP35-Pro.

Re: Overclocking my Q6600 on IP35-Pro
abit ip35 pro is a really stable board, you should get 3.4 on air and around 4 gigs on water with a G0
With my old b3 stepping (see my review) I got 3.98 gigs stable ![]() gilgamesh |

Re: Overclocking my Q6600 on IP35-Pro
No an issue mate G0 oc like crazy and run much cooler than the First release of the quad 6600 which was the b3. Try having to use 1.66VCORE ( yeah i know crazy) to get 3.98gigs. But thats what you had to do on a B3 stepping.

Re: Overclocking my Q6600 on IP35-Pro
Thanks to all those that helped in this thread. I (finally) bit the bullet and upped my FSB to 334MHz. I made no other changes whatsoever and my system is running stable at 3.0GHz. I've run PCMark Vantage (x64 edition) three times over the last couple of days. Each run takes well over an hour and I scored 6656 PCMarks which I guess is not too bad.

I just managed to scrap in at 3.4ghz with a voltage increase but thats the wall (for me anyway) |

Re: Overclocking my Q6600 on IP35-Pro
For stability testing I'd recommend Linpack
BTW 333FSB was peace of cake on Q6600 B3 and IP35-E which has less advanced layout. And all this with 8GB RAM too ![]() With IP35 Pro you could aim at 400FSB, but it will require additional tweaking of voltages for Vtt, Vnb and GTL Ref. |
