AN-M2 bios unable to permanently set virtualisation

    Hello,

I have an AN-M2 motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ CPU. I messed up a bios upgrade, so ordered a new chip which arrived with BIOS ID 20 although ID 19 is still being advertised on the abit web site.

The problem is that I want to set virtualisation 'on' permanently. In the bios it is 'disabled', but if I enable it, and reboot the system, it usually comes up with virtualisation disabled again. If I check the bios it says it is disabled. I can get it enabled by setting it to enabled and then immediately powering off the PC, and powering on again. The system will then come up with virtualisation enabled. However, if I reboot it is back to disabled again.

Am I missing something here? Is there a specific way to enable virtualisation permanently? Alternatively is there some other bios upgrade I need which has this problem fixed? I tried contacting abit (twice) via their web site, but heard nothing.

    Thanks,

    John.

If you have an AN-M2 then it looks like they may have sent you a BIOS chip with an AN-M2HD BIOS on it. They are obviously closely related but different enough that they don't share the same BIOS exactly.

other than RMA service abit is pretty much gone so don't expect too much help there.
    btw where are you?

Re: AN-M2 bios unable to permanently set virtualisation

    I'm in Plymouth, UK.

I assumed that the bios ID 20 was simply a pre-release/beta version, and expected to see it on the web site some time later. Other than the virtualisation switch it works fine on the mobo :-)

Hmm... I see why you say it might be the AN-M2HD. In which case perhaps I should just try and flash the bios with the last released AN-M2 bios (ID 19).

Failing that I guess it would have to be a new mobo. At the moment having to spend the first few minutes flicking the power switch on and off just to get virtualisation - which I am trying to use - is a real pain.

Re: AN-M2 bios unable to permanently set virtualisation

I have downgraded the bios to the last released version (19) for an AN-M2. The virtulisation switch still defaults to disabled, but if I set it to enabled I can then boot the machine and use virtualsation until the next reboot. It is not brilliant but it does mean I don't have to fiddle with flicking the power switch.

    jhorne,

I'm in the same boat. Downgrading to v18 fixes the virtualization settings. I'm guessing this broke when they added support for the AM2+ sockets. Anyway, this is a perfect fix as long as you don't care about S3 w/ audio. I have a PCI sound card so this doesn't really affect me. Anyway, hope this helps.

well I can't paste the link to the other forum because I don't have enough posts here. Maybe you can figure this out

    Good luck.
