Smile 4850 sapphire hdmi lcd tv

    hello,
I am looking at getting a new telly and would like to know what ati or anyone using an ati card thinks is a good set for gaming...games like cod 4 and 5 and fallout 3 kind of stuff ( Im not taking the piss, i know ut2004 is a bit much to ask of a lcd tv and i have a crt for that). I an thinking of a 42" 1080p telly that has 24fps possibly 100hz and good pc usability. I am thinking of using DVI to HDMI dongle that you get in the box and connecting to the hdmi socket on the telly. Any experience with this setup would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot

The setup will work absolutely fine, get a 4870 if you dont already have a card.

Its a pretty simple setup, especially if you makesure the DVI - HDMi has the sound going through aswell

i have a 4850 512mb card, which seems to play everything so far at 1280x1024 at 100hz nice n smooth. I would like to know if people have already got at setup like this and what problems arise from setting it up, like resolution and screen size with different tellys

I've got my HD4850 connected to my 37" Panasonic running at 1920x1080 and can play the likes of Far Cry 2 full settings without any hassle. Hope that helps.

Re: 4850 sapphire hdmi lcd tv

Yep, no borders. I set the aspect ratio to 16:9 and it defaults to 60Hz. Even playing Left 4 Dead full settings at this res it's great. No different to playing on a monitor (seeing as LCD TVs are essentially that) I'm using the included HDMI dongle and an HDMI cable to connect it to my television. Also if you want the audio to travel over the HDMI cable you need to install the realtek ATI HDMI audio drivers (do a google for it). The graphics card got a built in sound card as well heh!

Re: 4850 sapphire hdmi lcd tv

I got the TX37LZD800! Yeah that's all at 1920x1080. Tempted to have got a 42" now when thinking about it but 37" is the sweet spot based on distance I'm sitting from the screen.

As far as I know, Nvidia cards don't natively support sound through HDMI, whereas ATI do.
