    HD 6950 Crossfire issues

So I today i received another XFX HD 6950 DD from scan for a crossfirex config with my existing card. My power supply is a TX750 and so provides enough power to the cards. However, after I set up the cards and installed all the necessary divers (and switched it to crossfire mode in CCC), I played some BF3 to try it out and the fps was no different, or maybe slightly worse than if I was running just the one card. Please help as I hope I haven't just wasted £160 in another GPU.

    Regards
    Ollie

Would check that you have a profile setup for BF3 and crossfire is enabled in there. Also have you got the latest drivers?

    Re: HD 6950 Crossfire issues

I think you may have a CPU bottleneck. Easy way to tell is to lower the graphic detail in a 64-player game and see if FPS improves. If it doesn't make much difference, it's your CPU.

Yes, the FPS increases vastly on low detail, over 100%. So you you think it is a processor? What AMD CPU would you suggest. A Bulldozer, phenom, or wait for piledriver?

    Re: HD 6950 Crossfire issues

No sorry, that sounds like your GPUs are not functioning correctly. If you lower graphics and FPS increases then the hold up is in the GPU not the CPU.
Reading the entries above it would appear that you haven't installed the CAPS part of the software driver. Is that correct ? You can trell by going to the Control Panel, Uninstall software page, then looking to see if "Application Profiles" are listed with the little red/silver icon like Catalyst.
If not, you need to download them from here, and install them to get CF working. (links to W7 64-bit version)

    Re: HD 6950 Crossfire issues

No they won't. The CAPS set default (factory) setups for individual games. Those profiles in CCC are for when you want to change the default profiles to a personal setup and save it.

Looks like it. Very similar to the other thread here.

    Update:

    Furmark score with CF: http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fu...e.php?id=69472
    Furmark score without CF: http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fu...e.php?id=69474

So CF is definitely working as it just about, but I guess it is just struggling with BF3 for some reason.

    Re: HD 6950 Crossfire issues

Have you tried a fresh install of win7 with the latest drivers?

I ran into some trouble when I was CF'ing my 6950s. CCC did not allow me to select the CF mode. I tried to wipe the AMD drivers off and install them again, but it didn't help, so I reinstalled the OS and everything was fine afterwards.
