Powercolor 550 card and noise problem...can't adjust filters

    Hi,
I have a Powercolor 550 card (PCI E) and the picture I am getting with it has alot of noise....or grain. On the reviews I read for this card, thier pics are alot clearer and better than the picture I am getting. I have the latest driver installed and I also have the ATI TV tuner control panel installed. But for some reason, the ATI TV Tuner control panel seems to have no effect on the card. I'll adjust all the adjustments dramatically and won't see any change in the picture. I am useing GB-PVR but I also had this same problem with the Software that came with the card. I also am useing a normal local city cable company with a coaxial line that plugs into the PoweColor 500. Does anyone know how to fix this so I can get a decent looking picture?

Here's my system specs if it helps any:
    Dual Core Opteron 2.0 ghrtz
    1 Gig ram OCZ
    Asus SLI A8N Premium
    MSI 7600GT 256 MB
    PowerColor 550
    2 Seagates 350 gig 7200.10
    Windows XP Pro SP2

    Thanks,
    -Dman

    Hy,

I have the same Powercolor 550 card but without your problems.
It could be a bad reception on the TV cable. Try to verify the quality of the TV signal on the cable with another TV set or TV receiver.
If the quality for the TV signal on the cable seems to be OK, than it could be a different TV standard (e.g. NTSC system instead of PAL system or viceversa). You didn't mention the TV system for your Powercolor 550 card.
The last case is with a defective TV tuner card.
If this is the case try to change the defective TV tuner card with another card during the warranty period or return the defective card with money back request.

For the image quality my best experience was with Windows Media Center from Windows MCE 2005 and Windows Vista. Very good quality I got also with ATI MMC 9.15 and 6.14.10.175 drivers. The latest drivers 6.14.10.194 created problems for me when using ATI MMC 9.15. With 6.14.10.194 drivers, the ATI MMC 9.15 TV application was unstable for reception of PAL B TV signals (ATI MMC 9.15 freezes, no 576i PAL signal detection, etc. etc.). My region settings are for Germany (PAL B).

    Best regards
    sami

    I have this card too.
It's work great with MMC 9.09 (Full support) and Christv 4.99.
The filters work properly for me.
    I have no problems

You can't adjust the filters in MMC. These can be settings by control panel.

With this card a mpeg2 decoders are a must to have, like Cyberlinks DVD decoder or better if you have NV6XXX or NV7XXX card then a nVidia dvd decoder.
Using ChrisTV and any of those mpeg2 decoders, the picture should become DECENT (from my tuners expirience, T550 pro has the worst picture quality in analog tuners group. Best picture has analog tuners based on Conexant CX238xx chip used with Dscaler (which is the best TV watching app, but it has mayor issues with T550 pro)
