    Recovering data from Desire HD

My wife dropped her Desire HD. The glass front to the screen is totally smashed. The phone starts fine, which I'm amazed at, the battery cover and SIM/microSD card covers both popped off when it hit the floor (and it took a chunk out of our oak flooring, but the touch layer is completely gone, you can't get past the initial lock screen.

Does anyone know of any ways I could get access to some of the data off the device? I'd really like to salvage her text messages. Contacts and emails are in Gmail, so that's not an issue.

Perhaps the only way will be to find a replacement touch screen layer and repair it as best I can.

Re: Recovering data from Desire HD

If you can get it into sync mode for the USB connection, you could back it up that way - though if its anything like the desire you'll need the touch screen to do that. Otherwise it might be possible to do it via the hboot side of things with the requisite drivers - not 100% on that though.

Re: Recovering data from Desire HD

I've just been told that she isn't too worried about the data. I'll have a play about to see what I can do, but I probably won't bother with a new digitizer.

    Thanks Dave.

Re: Recovering data from Desire HD

You can try to remote install a remote connection app like this:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...velop.rm&hl=en

Although, I'm not sure if it will work without on screen setup... If it does you can back up what you need using Titanium or whatever you prefer.

To backup text messages, I use SMS Backup +. It automatically backs them up to m Gmail account. I'd recommend that everyone who values their SMS messages to use that.

Re: Recovering data from Desire HD

The wife was happy to let the messages go, photos were on the microSD card so they are saved.

Phone was replaced yesterday by Orange through Orange Care (forgot we had that at the time). Apparently the new one is better than the old one, although she couldn't say why.

Re: Recovering data from Desire HD

FYI there was an app I used to simulate touch control from the PC. You would install the app on the phone, it would broadcast on your internal network. Go to the specified IP on your PC, and you were able to navigate using your mouse. It was pretty nifty, bit slow but work a charm.
