    Nexus 5 Owners Thread

Making a new thread in the Android section of the forum as the other thread was a news article that got buried.

    Old news thread here: http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-news/3...99-16gb-4.html

Just wanted to say that I finally received my case http://www.amazon.co.uk/RELEASE-RING...s=nexus+5+slim

It was posted from the US (not China, lol) but you can now get it delivered straight from Amazon UK. Overall it is a nice case. Very slim so not too bulky, making the phone probably just over 1mm thicker than a naked Nexus 4. The only complaint is that manufacturing quality is not perfect. There is a noticeable thin sharp lip right around the case where the 2 sides of the mold did not fit together seamlessly. I had to sand it down slightly but is now smooth all the way around.

The plastic seems to be of high quality and the inside fit is perfect but maybe a little too perfect. It is hard to put on and take off without worrying about damaging the power/volume buttons. The case does offer a good amount of protection to the corners, buttons, and camera of the phone, but top and bottom front edges of the phone are not protected if the phone falls at a 45 degree angle face down. The case is thin enough that NFC (Android beam) and QI wireless charging (WCP-405) still works. Company logo is printed on, small and subtle, I'm not a fan of company names being engraved in a case (Spigen).

I'll rate this case 4.5 out of 5. Good tight fit, very light, doesn't add excessive bulk, quality material, NFC and QI unhindered, but taking 0.5 off to the slight shoddy workmanship of the final finish.

I can post some pictures tomorrow.

Went with the Spigen Neo Hybrid myself:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/SPIGEN-Googl...owViewpoints=1
High quality materials, feels like the kind of case where the sides won't stretch or snap like my previous N4 bumper and the feel of it is consistent with the look and feel of the N5 itself.
NFC works fine, no charging mat to try out yet.
Negatives: As you said above, fairly prominent branding on the sides, but that doesn't overly bother me.

I'd rate it 4.5 also, worth the extra £5-£10 to get a bumper you won't likely replace.

    Re: Nexus 5 Owners Thread

I also have the Ringle case and does have some very sharp edges on it around the power & volume buttons, which apparently is a common complaint. Overall a bit diappointed with it. On a better note I'm very please with my Dizatronic case which is thin smooth and soft to touch. Also have a couple of Nillken cases winging their way to me from China as in the past I've liked these cases alot.

I am not sure If I am going to get a case for my nexus 5 or not since I have never got a case for a phone and had 0 problems so far.

    Re: Nexus 5 Owners Thread

I'm ordering one of the Spigen, and also a Orza (or something like that) from amazon. Will report back on what they're like. The Orza is half the price so will be interesting to see how it fares. I have the ringke fusion for my N4 and it is brilliant. Reviews of the new one on amazon put me off getting it for N5 however.

    Re: Nexus 5 Owners Thread

I got a Nexus 5 ordered from release day but still haven't played with it as my wife has put it away until Xmas.

I've ordered both cases from Amazon as above and agree with the comment about the sharp edges looks like a manufacturing fault.

Is the phone as fast as I hope it will be?

Can't wait to get my hands on it

Tis indeed a good, fast phone. Still loving mine, saying that though I was updating all my phones last night and S2 is still no slouch running 4.3, hopefully a proper CM11 will get released for that also. Tried running Kitkat on the on the Nexus S and once it's loaded up everything it is usable.

    Re: Nexus 5 Owners Thread

on cases, my wife went for the spiegen http://www.amazon.co.uk/SPIGEN-Anti-...spigen+nexus+5 over the orzly http://www.amazon.co.uk/Orzly%C2%AE-...=orzly+nexus+5

Unlike the ringke fusion neither case has proper mechanical buttons, but both rely on flex in the bumper to push the buttons beneath it. The button areas on the Orzly are small and don't inspire confidence they will activate the N5 buttons beneath properly. The spigen while not proper buttons are better moulded (larger flat areas) and flex well in use. My wife felt the camera void on the rear was a better fit on the Spigen.

I slightly wish I had ordered her the Ringke fusion now. The Spigen seems to add more bulk to the phone than the ringke did on my N4

    Re: Nexus 5 Owners Thread

I don't like to keep my phone in a permanent case so I went with a cheap, simple sock style case to protect it when I'm not using it. amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00G2CVGO4/

I also got an Anker matte screen protector (amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GH5S1NK/). It was fairly easy to apply and get rid of all the bubbles but the matte effect is pretty poor. Looking at them again, it even looks poor in the photos on Amazon vs the clear one.

Very pleased with the phone itself.

Same, I've had accidents in which my case definitely saved my phone from destruction.
