Lightbulb Pioneer BDC-S03XLB + Antec Fusion (tray/door problem)

Thought some might find it useful to know that the popular Pioneer BD drive BDC-S03XLB is not compatible with the Antec Fusion case.

It is shorter than standard drives which helps with routing cables to its rear if you have a large PSU, but the tray door on the front goes the whole width of the drive bay (first drive I’ve seen do this).

It looks very nice with its massive door, but its wider than the flap in the front of the Fusion case so there is no way for the drawer to open once fitted.

Two solutions I’ve come up with:

    1. remove the door from the drive.
This is how I have mine setup atm. Works fine, but its very noisy when accessing discs.

    2. Trim the edges of the drive door.
Its not going to be possible to trim the case without massive effort and it will likely look a mess. The front door of the drive can be trimmed at both sides to make it small enough for the drawer to exit the case. Not sure yet exactly how I am going to cut the plastic, I think this might also end looking like a mess, but its hidden away most of the time.

    caveat emptor

Re: Pioneer BDC-S03XLB + Antec Fusion (tray/door problem)

Update: Have now cut down the tray front so that it fits through the opening in the Fusion case

It was a lot harder than I thought initially. I had to take off 2-3mm from the bottom, top and right side (RHS as looking at drive from front). I had to take off 3-5mm from the left side (LHS as looking at drive from front). That’s right you have to trim every edge, the Pioneer tray front is taller than a normal one (didn’t notice this initially).

After this the tray just clears the case body going in and out.

Either Antec needs to make a bigger opening or someone needs to tell all the drive manufacturers not to copy Pioneer's idea.
