    Post iPod, is it really worth the money?

    Hi guys,

    Is the iPod really worth the money? I mean, I hear of the problems with the battery and it only lasting a mere 8 hours even when brand new?! Can anyone rectify these or are they fact? I was thinking along with my spanking 17" pB I could purchase a 20gb version of these too, as sleek as they are, but is this really the best mp3 player around?! Would you guys say it's worth the whole £299.99 it charges you for?

    Replies appreciated.

    Thanks:}

    I believe they'd be worth it if you can drag any file onto them, like temporarily store a game or video to transfer onto another pc. Can you do this?

    got a 10gb second gen one, i don't know if i'd say its worth the cash if you've got the music to fill it, otherwise go for something smaller and cheaper. But it is an awesome piece of kit imo, even with the reasonably short battery life.

    I've got mine here, it arrived today!

    I went for the 40gb, as I figured 300 for the 20 or 400 for the 40. Pound for pound the 40 is better value

    Gonna wait til Monday incase Apple decide to release anything for the 20th anniversary of the Apple Mac. I can send it back and if they do

    There is a few rumours going round at the moment.

    If nothing is announced on Monday, then I'll open it up

    Are they worth the money?

    Well that depends on a number of factors really. If you're using it with a mac and you don't intend to listen to it for more than 8 hours a day then I think they most definately are. And yes, you can use it as a portable HD too.

    For alternatives, you might want to look at the Creative Zen Xtra. I think the 60GB version is £300. It's bigger and far uglier but it's possibly better value.

    Well I tend to spend 3 hours just travelling to and fro each day, so hopefully in between then, I won't make the other 5 hours use up, my current mp3 player lasts 22 hours... ;]

    my old mp3 player used to last around 18 hours but it took batterys which made it alot better if it died half way as you can't just stop and change batterys in an ipod

    True Knoxville, how new are these 3rd gen ipods? As, if a new generation is within throwing distance, it may be worth it for me to hold out, and can the Monday rumour be confirmed?... ;]
