    AV8 won't boot 9.F Error Code

There seems to be quite a lot with this error. I was just wondering if there is a definate answer to correct this problem?

    Spec:-
    Abit AV8
    3500 939 130nm Version.
    2 x 512 Sticks Corsair XMS3500 version 1.1's slots 1 & 2
    Gainward 6800 GT Golden sample
    IBM Deskstar 40 gig System.
    Aopen 16x DVDROM
    2 x Pioneer 108's
    Asus Star Ice
    Tagen 480W

Everytime I boot (trying new install of XP but not getting far ) I get codes 9.F
    Resets bios to failsafe settings.
    Any ideas?

Sorry Pete I haven't got the foggiest what the 9.F code means.

I've checked the Abit website and in a related thread a member on their has stated that a BIOS update has fixed his errors and the boards back up and running

    Hope this information helps,

    Best Regards.

Let me know if your still having problems with this board booting and I shall see if I can figure out what can be causing the issues for you.

    Hi,

I just bought a a new AV8 and I see the same error code. Besides, I can't even see anything coming out from the VGA. This is the sequence I get after PowerOn:

02: when the power plug is connected and the system is off.
83: just after pushing the power-on button. This code will stay for about 5 seconds.
9C: will stay for another 5 seconds.
9E: barely for a tenth of a second before the system shuts down.
9F: this will show after the system shuts down and will stay so until I press the power button again.

I'm kind of desperate. I've wrote Abit but got no answer.

    Thanks for any help

I'm using the PSU built in the Antec Sonata. I also tried a Nexus 3500 (350 W) with the same results.

Why is it the PSU an issue? There's enough power coming out from that PSU for any processor.

    need 24A on the 12V
Also seems to be quite a few reports of people with Antecs having problems with the Abit AV8 & the ASUS A8V.

One particular brand of PSU having problems? That doesn't make much sense to me. Volts and amps are the same everywhere, am I wrong? We're not talking about some El Cheapo PSU, I mean, electrical noise levels and fluctuations should be kept well over minimum requirements with this PSU. (I've used the Sonata to build some 50 systems and NEVER had a single issue with it. I'm surprised by this news.)

Anyway: how do I know the amperage on the 12V rail on the Antec Sonata's PSU?

BTW: After reading so much about the very faulty Abit AV8 I've ordered the Asus A8V. It'll be here on Thursday and I'll be able to check it against this PSU. I'll keep you posted.

    Hi again,

The True380 PSU in the Antec Sonata does provide 24A on the 12V rail.

    Here are the specs: http://www.antec.com/specs/true380_spe.html

but not all psus have the same outputs on the same rails.
& yes, you can get problems with certain brands of psu on a particular system depending upon their circuit designs.

Seem to be plenty of people who like the AV8 too though just as there are some people who e.g. like the MSI K8N Neo2 & some don't etc.

    Same problem

I am seeing the same 9.F. post code, as well as one long, then 3 short beeps.

    Av8 mobo with an Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939

    Phoenix D686 bios

I cleared the CMOS several times, but that did not help.

Would appreciate any updates - anyone else solved this one???

OK, I just got past the 9.F. post code.

The board apparently was not getting enough power. I had not plugged in the ATX12V1 plug in addition to the ATXPWR1 (see p. 2-5 in manual) . Once I did that, it looks fine. BTW, I have an Enlight 300W PSU with 13A on the 12V rail.

Just for everyone's information: careful when installing a Zalman 7000 cooler. Something goes wrong when using Zalman's original metallic backplate. Just use the plastic one that's already installed in the motherboard. The Zalman standoffs will screw in just the same.

THAT was my problem. The AV8 is working now.

Sorry for coming back so late.

By the way. Abit has tried hard to help me. They worried and followed my case carefully. They sent me a new BIOS chip and they did all they could. I'm amazed by their service. KUDOS ABIT!!!
