Ati Aiw
So...come on Andrezj, not heard from you in a while and a lot of people are still patiently (or not) waiting for a fix that doesn`t include using NSP WDM drivers or faffing about forcefeeding the SP drivers back in after an update on the CATS.
We`ve had quite a few fixes in the Cats and still no sign of a resolution to the digital crap they call drivers in the MM 9.08 tv drivers. Still freezes, still stutters and so on ad infinitum...... Looks like both my 9800s were a waste of money cos I have to use, for safety, the 8500DV I`ve had for ages if I want to watch or record tele. I`m so fed up with the crap from ATI, I`m never buying another AIW and if NV made one, I`d buy it like a shot. Actually, most of the tv cards, even some of the cheapies, make ATI a bad investment. |

Hmm. Does this mean we might actually get some proper replies to the question everybody (especially still using 9800s) to the AIW problem of stuttering etc (not gonna repeat it all) so many people have been suffering from and still do?
Even Andrezj never managed it and I know he tried and he works for them. Hellooooo helloooo hell..... bit echoey in here oo ere eloooo ere ellooo re ere..... Personally, I gave up spending lumps of money on being the fastest whatever around and am quite happy with my 9800 AIWs or would be if ATI would get off their butts and actually do something about the problems people have been begging them to solve for quite a while now. Catalysts are good but AIWs do a lot more than just game and give good graphics and lots of people have them. Even just an option not to have to force install the non digi WDM drivers would be reasonable. Don`t hold out much hope tho`, it`s been going on too long and I still haven`t forgiven ATI for their canning and driverless very expensive dual proc Rage Fury of some time ago soon after I bought mine. Anyway, I`ve already said that`s my last pair of AIWs as I`ll hopefully have a spare slot to stick in a decent TV only card soon which WILL have proper drivers cos it won`t be ATI. |

Looks like this ATI forum is going to be as much good as ATI`s own support.
Dunno why they bother making AIW cards if they won`t support them. OK guys, I give in....I`m out of here and ATI for good. |

Hi Shish,
It seems pretty useless to try and convince you All-In-Wonders cards are good products. I cannot (and I wouldn't dare to) judge on the efforts you spend to get the AiW 9800 running. I just wondered why or if: - you tried to go for the software / CD that came with your hardware (non-NSP drivers) - you tried our free of charge support hotline, they _do_ help customers - you tried earlier MMCs, that probably have more features than your out-of-the-box MMC, but no NSP drivers. They're available at: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...p?folderID=333 - you considered the possibility your system might not be set up perfectly, I use a X800XT with latest (NSP) drivers all the time, having no sound issue at all. This forum is not just meant for customers begging ATI for help or shouting at them. It's meant as a community to exchange experiences as well. Since nobody jumped on your problem as nobody could help, there is a possibility not many cutomers do face this issue. ATI won't go back to loop-through sound with newer MMCs. We had far more issues with that, starting with customers confused by the cable set, complaints about populated line-in connectors, asynchronities after 5 hours of recording, and so on. You should really work with our support, give the required details about your system, possibly do something about your configuration. We can only help customers who want to be helped. Please contact: 00800 6677 1111 (free of charge) or support@ati.com Thanks for your cooperation!
Cheers,

Tried all that working with support bit.
Just go look around most of the other forums dealing with ATI cards and you`ll maybe pick up on how many people have had and still have problems especially with the 9800 cards and MMC. I have a total of 4 AIW cards in our systems at home. 2x9800 and 2x8500DVs. The 8500s run no problem on the latest drivers and MMC with analogue sound, the 9800s do not. It is possible, as the actual connection is still there, to force the 9800 to use the SP drivers and all the problems of freezing (locks the system up completely such that you can`t even reboot or get rid of the TV but Windoze keeps running) and at best, stuttering sound and picture and problems with programme scheduling among other things. You should know that I am an old and very well qualified hardware engineer and as such am also qualified in Unix/Windows and a lot of other stuff. The AIW is and always has been a very good card but as in the past, ATI loses interest in the last model very rapidly and their support is still absolute rubbish. Their commitment to the Catalyst program is commendable but, judging by the amount of faults shown as corrected in the continuous driver updates, I would say they have some serious problems to sort out on the software side. I realise that graphics cards are continually updated and that 2 years is a long time in the hardware world but the cards don`t wear out in 2 years and ATI has always lost interest, in my experience, after a model has been superceded by the next and I can go back a lot of years. That also includes the commercial models as I am well aware of after many fights trying to get some support from the company. I appologise if I have misread the intended use of this forum but the title suggests otherwise. |

Looking for support
I also regret that ATI support is so lacking. I was just thinking their driver pages of their website are likely purposefully designed poorly to confuse people and make the consumer think we just don't know what we are doing. Well, I try to download the appropriate drivers for my 8500DV and I don't know what I'm doing.
This happens everytime I upgrade or otherwise change opperating systems. Anyone have a clear link or name for drivers needed for the 8500DV for use with Windows XP Pro? Tech support can't seem to give me the same answer twice, so any help here would be greatly appreciated. Jerbella |

Hi jerbella,
If you just go to www.ati.com there is a link on the left hand side that takes you straight to the latest drivers (Catalyst 6.5). That should work fine for you. Let me know if you have any more issues.

problems with older product support update
Mike,
Thanks for your response. You've renewed my hope, but i'm still having troubles. I have the driver installed and that seems to be working. I guess since i wasn't to this step yet, i forgot to mention i'm not sure which multimedia center software is for me either. I read that the latest is not good for card before the 9000 series and it was suggested I may need 9.02, however, i am unable to find anything earlier than 9.03 on the ati website. If you're still there please advise. Thanks for your help mike and for the forum shish. jerbella |

Hi jerbella,
Try out the latest version and see how it runs. Be sure to download and install all the components listed on the MMC webpage, in the order they're posted (DAO, encoder, MMC). The only one that's not required is the DVD decoder. If that doesn't work properly with your card, you can try some of the earlier versions you saw. However, all you can get is what you saw on the website. There are fixes/stability reasons why we put certain versions up and certain ones not. Be sure to uninstall all the MMC components mentioned above that you have on before you try to install another version.

hmmm... and the saga continues
Alright this is what i'm used to when it comes to finding the drivers I need.
I tried the most current version of Catalyst, and it caused scrolling problems in both MS word and IE. I unistalled it and things are now working well again, although I'm not sure what driver is being used... The driver properties says version 6.14.10.6483. So anyway I will try the latest version based on Mike's suggestion despite that fact that the website specifically states not to use it. I also understand that the version the website instructs me to use is not available on the website. yeah, this is typical of my experience with support. Koodos for ATI. I don't think I've ever really gotten everything to work write in the past either I usually just give up after making small amounts of progress in about the span of a few weeks. Anyone else have any ideas for drivers and software that work with XP for the 8500DV? jerbella |

Hi jerbella,
Yes, the latest drivers are actually not for your card. The previous version (Catalyst 6.5) seems to support it (it's in the Release Notes). So you can give that a try if you want. Also, all the MMC and driver versions are on the website (including the MMC 9.02 that you want). This is how you find them: Go to https://support.ati.com From the left hand menu choose: Drivers and Software -> Windows XP -> ALL-IN-WONDER -> RADEON -> Previous Drivers and Software This should bring up a list of previous versions on Page 1 of 3. Click Next a few times to get to Page 3 of 3. Once there, click on the last link "software prior to Catalyst 5.1 / MMC 9.03". From that page if you scroll down you'll see the full releases for all the driver versions. Be sure to uninstall all componets (DAO, MMC, etc.) before installing older versions and be sure to install DAO for the older version before you install the older MMC. Try that out and see how it goes.
