SCART input on AIW1800XL

I'm trying to transfer my VHS videos to disk and having a few teething problems. The composite input works fine and an image appears as soon as I switch to the Composite channel on the TV. I can't get any joy with the SCART input, though, and I'd prefer to use that as it's more convenient for me. Any suggestions how to initiate it?

My software's the latest, by the way - Catalyst 6.8 and MMC 9.15.

You can only output with the scart adapter. The input will be through S-Video

Thanks. I must admit that it never crossed my mind that it would be output only! Oh, well. I'm sure I can manage even if I have to have yards of cabling littering the place!
