ATi
What is happening to ATi? They simply aren't competing any more.
Competition is very good for the market. If we don't have competition, then newer technology will take longer to reach the end user. For example, what reason has Nvidia to quickly bring its new parts to the market (the 9800's) ? The 8800 has been out more than a year and its _still_ the best card on the market. And the prices hasn't even shifted much. ATi, get your act together and start making parts that compete at the high end. Not just main stream parts. I was holding off buying a 8800 in eagerness of the R600's but they turned out to be no better than an 8800GTS. Disappointed. I'm surprised the CEO of AMD/ATi has kept his job so long. |

Re: ATi
You have to remember that ATI has been in the middle of a buy out while developing the R600 cores and that all this costs lots of money.
I would love to see a 2900XTX on a .6 micron as the .8 micron was shown to be a very powerful part but the heat was even to much for liquid nitrogen to cool to get the max out of it. ![]() Either that or a new core out of the door ASAP to show nvidia how its done

Re: ATi
I would say that current FireMV and FireGL are best things on the market considering specs and features
![]() Anyway 2900XT apart from being hot competes with 8800GTS 640MB very well. Last edited by CooperXS; 29-08-2007 at 07:29 PM.. |

Here is one example of this using Bioshock. http://firingsquad.com/hardware/bios...ance/page6.asp Its hard to tell the best bench for this but in all but the HIGHEST resolution (2560 x 1600) the 8800gts 640 AND 320 were better performing cards. Re: ATi
Whilst I can see (clearly) that ATI aren't producing the best-thing-evar atm I can't see any of us being winners if they don't bounce back. nVidia isn't going to be as agressive with features or pricing if there isn't significant competition. Ironically, nVidia's drivers appear to suck ass much more so than ATI's - just proving you can't have it all in either camp right now.

Re: ATi
For those that havent seen the article about liqued Nitrogen on 2900 here is a link
http://www.nordichardware.com/news,6331.html ATI have been here before and have innovated and got the performance crown back who says they cant do it again with AMD behind them?? I may be in a majority of 1 but I feel the catalyst drivers are superior to nvidias especially at the moment.
