Huge Problems with ATI x1800XL AIW and MMC / Remote Wonder Plus
Hi!
I bought a ATI X1800XL All In Wonder yesterday. The Installation of the 3d graphics drivers worked flawless. While installing the Multi Media Center and the Remote Wonder Plus drivers I got some error messages though: MMC: After restarting the system after the install process has finished I get the message that MC might not be installed and that I should try to run the setup again. However, a renewed installation doesn't change anything. None of the controllers that are supposed to be there (from ATI) are present under Sound, Video and Gamecontroller in the hardware manager. When running the MMC configuration program (seemingly the only program that runs at all) the PC-Test (Run Tedt) button is not clickable (greyed out) The installation of the MMC itsself runs without any error messages. I also rebooted after the installation was complete. Remote WOnder Plus: The setup is unable to register the atirw.dll file. When registering it manually using regsrv32 I get this error code: 0x8000FFFF. The whole thing is quite unhandy since all of the features that the AIW provides over the default Radeon are practically unaccessible to me. I hope it is possible to solve this problem! System: Mainboard: Asrock 939Dual SATA II CPUr: AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ RAM: 1GB (Kingston, PC3200, CL2,5) OS: Windows XP Professional x64 Display: 15" TFT |

There is no support yet for MMC with Windows XP Professional x64.
The remote control driver is not available from ATI for use with Windows XP Professional x64. Remember.... XP 64 requires XP 64 drivers, 32 versions will not work. Greg |

This IS insane ... XP x64 is out for nearly one year now and they STILL don't have ANY x64 drivers except for the graphics adapter? This is NO service. If ATI wants to be a Number 1 manufacturer they HAVE to be more user friendly. It is not as if x64 hadn't been in Beta for over a year before release. Guess what anwser I got from the support over the message "The application is not installed. Install it again" from the ATI support? I should search the knowledge base for the error messages I got ... This is just crazy! I bought a 350€ product what is nearly a months worth of work for me and they want me to search the error myself? Beside the fact that I did this before requesting help. This is just BAD but I should have known better. ATI is known for bad driver support. I always bought ATI beacuse I loved their products but I think I should refrain from recommending them to my friends any more. A friend of mine wanted to buy a mid-range graphics card. Well I guess I'll correct my former suggestion to go with the X1600XT and say he should instead get a Geforce 6800 card. ATI is currently NOT in the position that they can make a name with bad driver support. I am DEEPLY dissappointed. The better image quality of the ATI is worthless if I can't use the product as intended. Just think about how many more customers you want to loose. Can I at least watch TV on Linux with this freaking card? If not I should considder giving it back because it simply doesn't work with my computer. This is how it is. |

that no one from ati even CARES to reply to this topic ensures me even more that
ATI might have been the wrong pick. I am deeply dissapointed especially since I was always satisfied with ATI in the past and because of this gave it priority over nVidia. However this seems to have changed or the bad support just shows when you have a problem. As long as everything works you are the nice good paying customer and if ANYTHING is going wrong or if there are any complaints woosh ... WE DON'T CARE that is at least what you told me with this support in big red screaming letters. So , no more ATI. This might change in the future but till then I'll have to get annVidia and a seperate TV-Tuner card. |

You might find this good reading.
The Windows XP x64 Edition Thread (Merged) http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=4345 Chances are if you give up on ATI for TV-Tuner you would go with a "Hauppauge" card. When you look at the X64 support from "Hauppauge" it appears that X64 support has only been available since the end of December and only the 150 card is supported right now. Truth is ATI has been provding WDM drivers for X64 since X64 was in beta. I know, I tested it. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showpost...62&postcount=6 Support is still included in Windows X64. WDM drivers are available from Microsoft and via ATI support download. The only thing missing is good old MMC but as I said, 3rdParty solutions do work in this case. There is also a lack of WDM drivers for the ATI HDTV WONDER card. There are however WDM drivers for the 550 on ATI's site! I for one dual-boot between MCE2005 and Windows x64 Edition. You may also find this good reading. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...el_x64faq.mspx Q. Why is there no Home x64 Edition of Windows XP? Who should buy Windows XP Professional X64 Edition? A. These are closely related questions. The initial target audience for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is anyone who is running into performance and memory limits on their 32-bit systems, for example, developers, media artists, CAD/CAM, scientific workstations and enthusiasts who are running the most demanding applications, and who require the capabilities of the Professional Edition of Windows XP. Windows XP Home Edition is targeted at the home user and has fewer features. At this point, especially with the current limited driver support, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is not targeted at the casual home user. Greg
