Composite/s-video capture - alternatives

I need a card that can do very high quality s-video capture (controllable gain control, comb filter, etc.) and as a fellow 550 Pro refugee who had to toss it in the dumpster during spring cleaning due to its horrible support, I figured I'd best ask those who found an alternative what their experiences were since you probably know what I went through trying to get the 550 to work as advertised!

For straight capture (composite, s-video; component optional) -- TV tuner completely optional -- are there any cards out there on the market that get the job done, professionally with no fuss, and have solid driver support (32-bit, 64-bit, Vista, possibly even other platforms)? Preferably a non-ATI solution if at all possible? Something that just works?
