550Pro and MMC

Any ETA on MMC support for the 550 Pro coming?

As a longtime AiW user I'm mainly curious about Closed Captioning.
I was able to use previous versions with workaround described elsewhere
on these forums so I know it is possible albiet buggy tho would like to be able
to use other features ie: recording without having to use other programs like
GBPVR (great prog) for recording while viewing. Having a Deaf wife brings CC
to the top of priorities and makes this card an expensive paperweight which is
truly a shame. I also miss the ability to record to different file sizes as current
recorded files are huge.

Thanks
Stu

Hi Stu,

I cannot comment on CC functionality, since we don't have it in Europe. What I can say for sure is that MMC9.09 supports Theater 550 Pro cards. It's part of the AiW X800 GT/XL retail box, on ATI.com there is only 9.08 available. So please contact our customer support, you get 24/7 assistance.

Cheers,

Hey Mike, when do you think it'll be available for download?
Will we need a MMC CD to be able to install it, or it is more like an update from PowerCinema for everyone with the theatre 550 pro cards?
Cheers.

Hi, I am just wanting to know if MMC has an epg and if you have to have any previously installed software to use this version (when it becomes available for download, lol)? Much thanks, yasdaz

I’m sure most people would tell you that MMC has an EPG, AKA “Gemstar Guide Plus+”. Guide Plus+ is now available for download via ATI’s site. However, although Guide Plus+ has MMC integration, it does not have a full screen 10-foot interface, which you can easily navigate via a remote at a distance from you monitor or TV. This sad fact has been a sore point for MMC users for some time seeing as more modern programs like MCE and even a number of free applications such as “Media Portal” and “GB-PVR” can and do provide this simple feature.

Personally, I would really like to see MMC 9.09 work on a Theater 550 Pro because it’s a little hard to believe until you do.

Its nice to hear though,...

This is a big change from ATI’s official stance (and perplexing stance) of not supporting the T550P in MMC.

OK, seems there are more MMC fans (like I am) than I thought...

The official support for MMC is not given at this point, it won't be available before version 9.12. This doesn't mean it won't work, it's just not working perfect. Like every company has certain criteria when a software can be released, we will need some time still to give it to you in a good shape, fullfiling our requirements. I just wanted to help out Stu in his specific situation, because I guess minor bugs wouldn't bother him.
For all others of you, you have to be patient.

Cheers,

Mike. Will we be able to download the full version of MMC and install it without having a MMC CD?

Hi all,

MMC has a frequent update schedule of 2 months. Probably we skip 9.9 for public, so you will see 9.12 next year. MMC includes parts that we have to pay royalties for, like e.g. the DVD decoder and EPG support. So we cannot spread a full version per download. Anyway, it will be available for TV support and so on.

I'm glad to see so many people liking our software, though!

Cheers,

So people like me who bought the Sapphire card will have to order a MMC CD?

ChrisTV does the job. 40 EURO, and it does hardware encoded recording (with full control).

I understand that you may not be able to elaborate with a higher degree of specificity but I will ask anyway:

If the next downloadable version of MMC is in fact 9.12, in what quarter of 2006 will we be able to download it? You know, Q1, Q2, Q3 or Q4?

Thanks in advance.

Well thank you very much!

You are a wealth of information and it is much appreciated.

Q1 of 2006 isn’t really bad at all for an ETA of MMC 9.12 in download form.

There is a post here that states MMC 9.10 may be available around the 2nd week of December 2005,….maybe:

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showpost...0&postcount=37

Can you lend any credence to this?

Also, I know this may be looking “the proverbial gift horse in the mouth” but could you in any way help us, the end customer with respect to T550P cards and MMC, understand the whole entire reasoning behind the rocky history behind these two products working together?

Why is it that now (with MMC 9.09 and up) seems to be the right time to support the T550P in MMC when logically most would think the right time would have been when the T550P launched?
