AIW 9600XT & Theater 550 Based TV Tuner

OK, New to the forum. I have been looking everywhere for help. I have and use the 9600XT all in wonder with 9.14. everything works great. I recently bought a Powercolor Theater 550 Pro TV tuner...this card has ATI written all over it. I found limited knowledge on using dual tuners..OK I installed the card..the MMC found both cards and scanned all channels for both cards. I can use MMC to access and tune either card..but when I try to turn on Multi view the window opens I can hear audio the it vanishes..I can still hear the audio but no Picture in Picture.. I have tried using different version of Drivers and mmc's..I have been at it for quite a while..SO I am stuck and need somebody to point me in the right direction. It seem slike it is something simple but I can't figure it out..thx for any help guys..

Hi ROBSCIX,
How powerful a computer do you have? You see these latest versions of MMC have timeshifting enabled all the time, so what you're watching is being recorded on your harddrive. So when you try to do MulTView, it's recording two things (not to mention software encoding for the AIW) and it's pretty intensive computing power. I'll give this setup a try to see how it works here and get back to you. Stay tuned.

Hi ROBSCIX,
I put together a setup like you describe and I did indeed see the same issue as you. I've sent it on to our QA and they'll be looking into it. If it's already a known issue, it might already be fixed in the next MMC release, but otherwise they'll have to investigate it further and I'm not sure when it can be resolved. I will keep you posted on any updates I get. Stay tuned.

Really? I have since fixed this issue. I have disabled timeshifting or TV-ondemand right in the registry. I don't like it recording unless I want it to. I have Picture in Picture working fine now. It's interesting because I was told by ATI tech support that Theater 550 chipset based cards don't support Multiview. I emailed back and told them that they indeed do because I have the setup running just fine. I appreciate your response. I must have tried ever combination of driver and MMC imaginable except I cannot test out newer version of Cat drivers. There is a known issue in a few forums with KT400 Chipset and 9600 Based cards..I cannot run 6.5,6.6 or 6.7 drivers.. So for what it's worth I now have Picture in Piture running a hardware setup that ATI said shouldn't be able to do what I have it doing. I am happy though because I have my Picture in Picture just like I wanted..thx for the help Mike.. BTW if you got the same issue I wonder why?

I've been a huge enjoy'er of ATI's All-In-Wonder cards including 9600, 9800, x800xt and TV Tuner cards. I was extrememely disappointed in ATI for both ending the program and for calling constant instant on demand "A feature". It's NOT a feature, it was a feature when we had the option to turn it off and on....a registry hack to disable it in 9.13...sounds like Robscix found it or found that it also works in 9.14 also. TV on demand was great when we could decide when or if to use it.

Re: AIW 9600XT & Theater 550 Based TV Tuner

I don't use my 9600XT anymore it is installed in the Kids computer now as it is NOT compatible with Vista anyway. Still use my TV tuner card though.

To get the most out of my card I had to become somewhat of a expert on their drivers. Some version would give certain features..others would not. some worked with PiP some not..etc. Usually installing the latest version just messed things up. I also ran different driver poarts from different releases.
THe drivers are somwhat touchy BUT once you get them working right they are great. BTW, I haven;t been to this forum in while..your question was in my email. As for the TV on Demand in that version it was just ON, I didn't like that at all so I looked around and found out how to disable it.
You could just save to *.reg files -one with the fix on and one with it off then load the one you need at the time. Hope this helps.

Re: AIW 9600XT & Theater 550 Based TV Tuner

Hey Robscix if you are still out there or anyone else.... Do you remember what versions or do you happen to know what's the earliest verison of MMC that would support PiP with an AIW card like 9800Pro or AIW 800XT and a HDTV Wonder PCI card?

I'm using it on MMC 9.08 and in the configuration I see both tuners and I can select it to change which tuner to use for analog....but the Multiview section which is there...is all greyed out.

Do i have to go into the dreaded MMC 9.13-9.16 range to get Multiview with the HDTV Wonder & an AIW card.

If it has any impact on the setup I also have an AIW PCI-E x800XL card too.

Thank you
