TV Tuner only works for Beyond TV :(

I just reinstalled windows XP MCE and MCE was not picking up the tv tuner. I tried the ATI Software and that did not work either. I have a beyond tv disc and installed it , which worked fine.

The device manager installed the tv tuner as a Unified AVstream.
I have installed the latest drivers from the ATI download page.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar issues?

Thanks

This is a Theater 550 Pro card (I don’t really know since you didn’t really say),…?

What is your system configuration?

What decoder are you using and are you sure it is a MCE compatible decoder?

Are you knowledgeable about installing and configuring MCE 2K5?

You left out a lot of information but my guess is that there is no decoder installed or an incompatible decoder. If in doubt you can try downloading the “Microsoft Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility” from Microsoft to check decoder compatibility or allocate between multiple installed decoders.

I cant believe i forgot to say what card I have.

It is an ATI All In Wonder 2006 edition. Has the Radeon 9600 256mb on board.

I am have configured more than one card with MCE.

The problem is very weird considering it will work with Beyond TV, which I do not mind using, although MCE has the capability to access network folders and play videos over the network. I have two MCE PC's and I like to be able to access the recorded tv shows from either one.

OK,…

Cool,….

Did you install the required ATI “Windows XP Media Center Edition Encoder”? This is a requirement for AIW 9000 cards and up in MCE. The necessity of the “encoder” is likely due to the fact that the AIW line has a software based tuner that doesn’t exactly conform to MCE hardware requirements (hardware based tuner),…BeyondTV hardware requirements are simply not as demanding. You also need a decoder, the ATI DVD decoder is actually licensed from Cyberlink and is the same as the one used in PowerDVD. Currently the ATI decoder, which should have come on you AIW install CD, is up to version 6.0.0.1.xxxx (I think) so that should equate to PowerDVD6 but you may need to use the web utility (atiCDwiz.exe) to upgrade it to the latest downloadable version.

You should be able to find all that you need by going to:

ATI Customer Care Site Map > Drivers & Software > Windows Media Center Edition > ALL-IN-WONDER >

Install “Catalyst 6.8 Windows XP Media Center Edition - Driver Download”

And install “Windows XP Media Center Edition Encoder”

You do “NOT” need to install “ATI Multimedia Center 9.15” but you can click on the link and then download the DVD Decoder* (Requires original installation CD be in CD/DVD drive for authentication).
