Watching Hockey on ATI TV Wonder Elite

For a couple years I was using an ATI 9600pro AIW and a dell 20" widescreen LCD monitor as my TV.

I watch a lot of hockey and watching it on this set up was crap. I attributed it to the LCD display as the cause of my problems with the slower refresh rate not keeping up with the action.

Nowadays I have an ATI TV Wonder Elite with an HIS Radeon x1950pro 256meg vid card and Dell 32" LCDTV.

My issue is that watching hockey looks better with cable plugged directly into the dell tv than via the cable plugged into the tv wonder elite outputted through the x1950pro from dvi to hdmi input of the dell TV.

What does better mean? Well granted the PC does upscaling to 720p much better than the dell but I find the images on the dell crisper and the action is smoother. The PC output to be me seems blurry and may be even slightly choppy (but could be because of the blurriness). Oh and the ice surface looks yellowish not white

What's wrong if anything?

Thanks for your time!

Hi thanks for the reply!

I am currently using mediaportal and for the decoder I flipped through the ones that came with mediaportal and even also the ati ones without any difference realliy.

I installed the latest ATI drivers for both the tuner and graphics card.

Hi

That’s on a XP platform right?

I briefly tested MediaPortal on a Theater 550 Pro card some time ago and I can safely say that it’s a great program. I didn’t get much experience with it though since I basically only use MCE 2K5.

Perhaps its not the application or the decoder.

You’re comparing the Dell 32” LCDTV (HDTV?) with direct cable feed without any PC application to cable through the TV Wonder Elite (Theater 550 Pro) with PC application on the Dell 32 LCDTV?

Well many people have thought that the picture quality of the Theater 550 Pro line in general is too soft or fuzzy. Could this be what you are referring too?

So assuming you aren’t comparing HDTV on the Dell to SDTV through the 550 it just might be that the 550 has a softer image.

Perhaps others could add their thoughts on the subject but that’s my initial assessment. Not sure if you can correct this significantly.

This could very well be what I'm experiencing... It's not horrible but it could be better and I guess it could be described this way as well... humm

And just to be complete
Yes I'm on XP

and yes I'm comparing SDTV direct to Dell and SDTV through the TV wonder elite, through PC to the dell.

I thought people were in general very happy with the theater 550 pro chip, too soft or too fuzzy should be very important factors
