| choosing a DVD player am planning on buying between either a Sony NS76, Philips DVP5960 and the Samsung HD860. all have HDMI connectivity and all are DVD video upscalers. which one would you choose and why? |

| None of them - have a paddle along to AVForums and get a second hand Denon 1920 thats far superior to all of them - they are going for 120 or less (there was one on the other day for that price inc delivery). I'm not entirely sure of the value of upscaling on players under £100. I'd probably go for a good older player with good component out. But then again I'm a stingy git that hasn't bought owt new in years. ps in answer to your other question I'd use coaxial digital out for your surround sound. |

| I've heard mixed things about the Denon... Really depends on what you are looking to spend. I've got the Philips 5960 (£70 from Sainsburys!). Its nothing fantastic by any means, but does the job. Its easy to make region-free via a remote control hack, and Philips are releasing BIOS updates for it as well. HDMI upscaling works, although tbh on my Toshiba WLT66 its hard to tell the difference! I think its a good cheap DVD player. |
