    need help with cables

i currently have the Philips DVP5960 Upscaling DVD player with HDMI connectivity. i also happen to have a Surround Sound Speaker system with a Coaxial and Optical outputs at the back. the philips website tells me that the DVP5960 has "Analogue audio left / right out, Composite video (CVBS) output, HDMI output, Digital coaxial out, Component video out progressive, Scart" as rear connections. i dunno how to put my questions but: what cable do i exactly need to maximise the audio (Dolby, DTS or otherwise) of my DVD player in order to connect to my surround system? and where to & from i would connect this cable?

do you have an AV receiver? if yes use either Digital Coaxial or Optical (aka SPDIF) out from DVD and hook to AVR.

Assuming you mean that your surround sound speaker system has coaxial and optical inputs, rather than outputs, and your DVD player has a coaxial output, I'd use a digital coaxial cable to go between the two.

    This one should do

I don't really see the point in expensive cables for digital sound transmission, especially over short lengths, since digital sound is lossless.

IOW, buy that cable, and plug it into the digital coaxial output on your DVD player, and digital coaxial input on your surround sound system.
