    Hi-Fi Help Needed

    hi guys,

i'm just about to get a nice chunky bonus from work and i want to spend it on some really kick a$$ hi-fi equipment

The biggest problem i've come across is what speakers should i buy - i really want a full surround sound cinema package but i have no idea what to get

a mate at work has some Acoustic Energy ones, i think he said there the Aegis series (link below)

    http://www.acoustic-energy.co.uk/Pro...evo_centre.asp

the only problem is there pretty pricey, i only have about £500 to play with. Can anyone lend any advice?

    Thanks

Is it £500 just for the speakers? What will the rest of the setup be?

    How big is the room?

And are you wanting if for home cinema only, or for listening to CDs etc as well?

Superfi have acoustic energy Aelite 5.1 for only £1000 at the moment, original price £2500 if I remember correctly.

At your price they've got Q ACOUSTICS 1010 5.1 SPEAKER PACKAGE, which seems to have reviewed well in What Hi-Fi.

Make sure you leave a reasonable budget for interconnects and speaker cable. They can really make a difference.

yeh the budget is for speakers only (i have additional monies for cabling etc )

as for the amp its already taken care of through a friend. Its a Sony one and costing me in the region of £350 but i'm not to sure of the model number, i'll be sure to post it once i've seen my mate

the speaker set you've posted looks awesome and is perfect for my price range, however, i was hoping for something a little beefier for the front speakers but i guess im being a little optimistic for my budget.

    Acoustic Energy ?!

Good speakers buuuut... £200 on an amp isn't really going to do them justice, especially for music, unless you go second hand. Second the vote for AVForums classifieds !

Do you mean where to go in the forum or what kind of amp? If you are looking for an AV amp I would say a Denon of some description with that speaker package, or maybe a Yamaha but I think the Denon would be better paired, they are generally more musical as well. The recent Yamahas do seem to be better built though.

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, Harman Kardon, Sony and a few others brands should all be in your price bracket. Specifics depend on exactly how much you have to play with.

Might be worth making a post over on AVForums asking what people recommend for your dosh. You may well get a few PM's with people offering things for sale that might just fit your needs
