Camcorder - HELP!!! I have an eight month old daughter and my wife and I have decided we are missing out on some magic moments by not having a camcorder. I have been looking for the last couple of months but cannot decide on what to buy. I know absolutely nothing about camcorders and just need someone to say. Here's a good overall camera that will do all the basics and enable you to burn DVD's. Obviously one of these new DVD camcorders sounded good but I found postings saying that unless you spend lots of money its not worth it yet and the quality is not as good as a mini DV ?? Well, its up to you guys now....your my last resort. If you cannot recommend a camcorder a website would be much appreciated. Budget is around £300 and I'm not worried about what make. Thanks so much. REV

Recording direct to DVD is more of a gimmick, IMO; if you already have a DVD burner, why would you need it? I honestly think you'll do better with Mini-DV. Hard disk camcorders are quite nice, but too pricey to be realistic; it's only the bottom of Sony's range that come in at less than £300 EXCLUDING VAT. Canon are quite nice - what about something like THIS ?

Thanks for the advice. Looks like Canon are good value for money. I've found the following which is a new Canon model that has been recommended. Canon MD 160 http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx...1249&InMerch=1 Any thoughts ?? Also found it at empire direct for £279.99 with a 5yr guarantee. Thank you REV

| I did this in December for Sair's Christmas present. If you stay under £250 ....Sony are the kiddies really. And I would stay under £250, as you get a lot of corder for your money. Then buy a new one in two years time, ![]() BUT...... BUY A BIGGER HARD DRIVE!! ![]() Agent = Hardware Homosapien | Zak33 = Hardware Homonid - just call me "Lucy" |

I have a Samsung Mini-DV camera for that very same purpose! It's a little noisy on playback though so I would go with some other make. Each tape once transferred in DV-AVI format (uncompressed raw) to the PC takes up about 15GB.

I have a Canon DV type, and after a good shoot, I playback direct to my JVC DVD recorder. First class. I got mine today and I am almost tearing my hair out here. The motor noise on the recording from this camera is INSANE ! I thought my 8 year old Sony digital hi8 camera was bad, but is just beyond belief. How Canon can make/sell something like this without offering a option for an external mic is just crazy. I tried filming in a quiet forest with just bird song, and in the livingroom with music pretty loud. the motor noise just kills the birds song, and it is even really destroying the music. I'm returning this stinker asap.
