    Sky HD

I'm about to make the leap to Sky TV, I have a new 26" 720p Samsung TV, but is it worth paying the extra £120 for the HD box?

Is there any extra cost per month?

I'm planning on only getting the sports package,

so is HD Sky Worth getting?

£10 extra a month for a HD subscription. IMO it is not worth it considering you only get 9* HD channels. Its just another SKY reel in to make more money off you. I'm sure it looks awesome but for 10 quid extra a month for just 9 channels, I personally can't see the value in it. There is also a £60 installation fee if your not taking out a multi-room subscription at the same time.

*Im going on what is listed here

I've got Sky HD and to be honest, it isn't worth the extra cost of the box or the extra montly cost.

The channels that are broadcast in HD are very good - football for example looks great in HD but there isn't enough HD content to justify the extra cost.

I wouldn't have got Sky HD had my Sky + box not gone tits up.

Most definitely. I couldn't live with out it now.

If your going for SSports anyway, you might as well get Sky+. At £99 the box is cheap enough these days and because your getting SSports there will be no monthly Sky+ subscription. Its definitely worth it as I previously said . The only downer that you have to decide on is if you want to pay the £60 installation fee for it. Paying that basically makes the Sky+ box £159. It's still worth it though I think, you can even send a message via your mobile to the sky+ box to tell it to record if your out and have forgotten to set it and you can do it online.

If you can get Virgin Media, check out their V+ service, you could probably get them to price match the new Sky offer for £34 plus £15 for the V+ box.

HDMI cable signal, HD BBC for the BBC screened football, sure you don't get HD sports but the V+ box makes a considerable difference to signal.

Then there is the fact you rent the kit off virgin, so if it breaks they replace it for free, oh and you can record two channels and watch another and its HDD is double the size of the Sky + box at 160gb.

    Matt.

Guess I'm in the minority but I love me Sky HD Couldn't do without it now. Maybe I'm lucky as although there's not that many HD channels, the majority of what I watch is in HD, so I'm well chuffed.

If you're unsure about HD, and I can see why, you just can't miss out on Sky+. It's awesome, and you'll wonder just how you managed without it.

On a 26" screen I don't think you'd see much benefit from Sky HD. Save yer money and just get Sky+.

I would agree with jimborae. On 26" screen you won't get the real HD experience, unless you are watching from a distance less than 1 meter or so.

Otherwise IMO, it's worth for £10 subs you pay!

Get Sky+ for a friend for FREE said the flyer this morning!!

Call them up on 08703-360159 and quote "SKY IAF" and you'll get a free Sky+ box, free installation (worth £159), but pay a one off £40 activation fee, plus your monthly fees.

Sounds pretty good to me AND they've cancelled the £10 Sky+ monthly charge from July 1 (or, possibly immediately for new users ?)

    hth

I can't believe that people are posting "SkyHD looks great but 10 quid a month is too much"

    lol?

    10 QUID A MONTH.....thats a few pints.

If you have a nice TV and like football, golf, tennis or movies, then you'll not want to move back after having HD.

I don't think its the £10 per month thats too much, I think its the additional £10 per month.

eg: Sky channel package £50 per month = £600

additional £10 = £120 which £720 per year is coming close to a grand a year for TV, more so if you consider the £150 one off sky box installation.

    It is Inevitable.....

    Really?

This could be the clincher for me - been thinking of getting Sky with Sports and broadband. But I was going to wait until the footy season started again...

.... and just 9 or so channels; its yet another extortion that Sky want us to pay. Compare it to the SD channels where you have 100's for £20 per month and the value in HD looks pathetic. I don't care how good it looks, it is not worth £10 a month.

Exactly most people haven't got the want or the spare cash to give nearly a grand a year to SKY. They have more important things to spend their money on.
