How do I connect my 5.1's to my t.v.?

hello,
I'm having a few probs getting 5.1 speakers working on my tv.
I bought these http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=1322 to connect to my 32" techwood lcd tv.
The 4 satellite speakers and centre speaker all connect to the subwoofer.
The 3 cables that come off the subwoofer to connect to my tv are all 3.5mm jack connecters whereas my tv has rf connecters.I bought these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...9518&rd=1&rd=1 3x 3.5mm to 2 rca leads to see if this would work but still no sound.
What am I doing wrong?
Do I need an amp of some sort?

pictures would help - i got confused when you started talking about RF connectors (RF is what the aerial plugs into)

I guess you mean phono connectors (the two red/white plugs)

You are only ever going to get sterso from your TV, never surround.

those speakers are designed to take the 5.1 audio (6 channels in total) from some sort of surround decoder. Probably meant for PCs with the decoding on the soundcard/drivers. These usually just have 3.5mm jacks.

Many recievers have phono sockets for each of the speakers on the back, which you could use with the 3.5mm jacks on your speakers.

Right, ok where do we start?

What video sources (sky, dvd, etc) do you have plugged into the TV? Reason I ask is that unless the TV has audio out connectors, the way you need to feed audio into the speaker system will be direct from the source you are watching at the time. Either as analogue left and right phono connectors or digital audio from a dvd player or games console.

Next, I had a look at the sweex website, but the manual isn't available for this product. But from what I can find, what you have bought just seems to be an amplifier and speaker set. In other words, it doesnt have a 5.1 processor built in. So its designed to ampilify the seperate centre, sub and surround channels from a 5.1 source. I don't think it will take say a digital audio output from a dvd player and process it to the 5.1 speakers you have bought. What inputs does it have? As really will dictate what you can do with it. For example I have a Pure Digital Dolby Digital processor and speaker set which has left/right phonos, digital optical audio in, or digital coax audio in and it does the signal processing and amplification to give 5.1 sound, depending on which input is selected.

What audio ouputs do your sources have? ie Does your DVD player have seperate 5.1 outputs? Or left / right phonos etc..

Will be better placed to advise with as much info as you can provide matey..

It'll be possibly to setup with a whole network of adapters/splitters but you'll probably spend as much, if not more on adapters than it would cost to buy a suitable 5.1 kit.

The speakers you've bought are designed to plug into a pc sound card, not a TV.

I'm not even sure it will work with loads of adapters, the three inputs on the sub are probably 'front, rear, subwoofer'?? If so then the sub input probably needs an input which only has low frequencies (Bass frequencies)

Looks like I've made a boo boo.These speakers are meant for pc's.I'm gonna have to try an palm these off.lol
At the moment I have the subwoofer and centre speaker connected to the left and right audio sockets on the back of my dbox.This is gonna have to do till I can afford a proper set up.
I was wanting a cheap decent sound system as I was just gonna use my xbox 360 as my media player as its on a wireless network to my pc upstairs and of course there's no better sound than the subwoofer blasting out rounds of machine gun fire on full blast,shaking me walls.lol.
Any ideas of what I could get thats cheap.I'm talking £30ish

Bit late seeing this thread but if you manage to sell off your speakers would you be able to afford the Pioneer HTP-GS1 sound system??

I have this hooked up to my 37" Toshiba LCD, my DVD player and also my PS2 and it gives off quite a nice sound...

Thanks for that m8.I have a friend who has them as well.He highly recomends them too.He paid £200 for his.I've looked on *bay and could get them for around £130 inc p&p but from u.s.a.
Ididnt want to spend so much but I think it's gonna be worth it.My birthdays not far away now.lol.Plus I'm Daddy and sort of get what I "need" lol.I'm deaf you see and wasnt really after the 5.1 effect etc.I have all that on my p.c. and i Really just need a bit of a boost on the volume levels.Especially bass as thats where my hearing deficit effects me most.

After my parents heard mine, they decided they wanted one as well so I ended up going back for a second set at the same shop... got some funny looks from the assistant until I explained they were for my parents...

From your sig, are you up here in the North East?
If so, I got mine from a place in the Metro Centre who at the time were doing a deal and I got a Pioneer DVD player (the 696 model) thrown in as well and it was all for about £250 which all came in handy seeing as I was getting a new TV, DVD player and sound system

I have to say, that following getting these I have watched a few of my old films and it is certainly a big improvement on the temporary kit I was using until I got myself sorted - I might not be as qualified as some of the audio folks on some forums but for me, this system works well and that is what counts

Yes I'm in the west end of the toon m8.I think I know the shop youre on about.MM in the metro centre.
Just missed a set for £130 buy it now on *bay last week.By the time I got my wifes permission to use our credit card sum 1 had beaten me too it.
