    F1 to go Hi-Definition

According to Pitpass F1 is going to be broadcast in HD this year.

    http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpa...s_art_id=27731

I'm trying to find out how this would be broadcast in the UK but I'm running out of luck. Looks like it's for the Americans only until ITV bring out a free to air HD channel

Yup, I've been enquiring if anyone knows anything on the AV sites, but most of them are still full of disillusioned skeptics !

There is another article here though http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/58776

And the above article is also at http://www.sportbusiness.com/news/16...-hdtv-offering with an interesting titbit at the end. Seems the HD relay trucks were supposed to be going into action at Barcelona but didn't.

Mr E seems rather vague about it, and if he's purchased the gear, there's probably a reason why he's not using it. Maybe waiting 'til more of the broadcasters are capable so they can publicise it worldwide at the one time with a specific race ? Rather than rolling it out slowly across the networks ?

That said though, I'm sure there were Euro1080 trucks at Silverstone 3 years ago. Whether or not they were relaying 1080 pics is another matter though I s'pose.

Aren't ITV having more HDTV tests at some point in the near future ?

ITV are supposed to be partnering with the BBC and launching Freesat HDTV at some point next year.

Depending whats channels end up on it and if it is an open system or not (CAM encription i can deal with as long it is a standard one i can use with MediaPortal) will determine when i upgrade my plasma

Sounds quite cool. Wonder if that means that we can have several viewing options. So lose the James Allen commentary and choose to just watch the race from one driver. Like the player cam idea with Sky and footie.

The was talk of F1 coverage being more interactive a few years back, one of the options was going to be the timing monitors the teams see.

Maybe there'll be a GoodmanCam, where Louise chases down DC after lap 3 each week?

I did like the cameras on the Ferrari and Renault wheelmen. One might tyre of seeing someone change a wheel each time, until they make a mess of it that is.

Unless ITV have HiDef chanels then no.

Perhaps next year once Freesat from the BBC and ITV is launched.

perhaps on the Freeview trial, but only about 3 people could get that There isn't any ITV HD content on Sky, or cable as far as i'm aware.

Broadcast from Crystal Palace at reduced power, apparently people only 10miles from the transmitter (and with perfect signals on the other MUXs) are unable to get a strong enough signal to do anything with it. Even if you can get the HD MUX, you will need a PC with a DVB-T card and the right software to be able to do anything with the content. STBs wouldn't have a scooby what to do with the HD streams.

I wouldn't hold much hope for HD on terrestrial Freeview to be honest. Most of the bandwidth is going to be sold when analogue is switched off is 2012.

But even if there is HD channels on UK DTV, they aren't going to be arond until 2013 at the earliest.

The Euro 1080 trucks were there again at Silverstone this year, so some lucky beggars are getting it.

That would be for the cinema. Apparently Vue cinemas were doing a deal where you could watch the race, get an official program and a few other bits and pieces for £30, with the added bonus of no adverts. Think I'd prefer to stay at home and watch it...

    Cheers,
    Stephen

Yeah. £30 is a bit much. £10-15 and I might be interested. Especially if you consider that only the bigger cinemas will have the spare screens on a Sunday AND also the financial power to afford the likely Bernie tax. So those of us not living in a city would have to travel to that city and so £30 would be a cheeky charge.

And if someone went to watch every single GP this season, @ £30 they would spend £510 for the season. And a round £600 if Bernie gets his 20 GP season.

    Erm no thanks.
