    Impedence Matching

Hello all! I have a 5.1 amp that handles impedence levels 6-16 Ohms and i have a set of spreakrs that are 4 Ohms. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the correct way of matching the 4 Ohms so they fit into the range of my amp. I have previously been told to add a simple resistor. This is not corrrect as impedence is the combined value of resistance, capacitance and inductance. I have also been told an attenuator would do the trick however im not completely sure about this either. Cheers

You may find that the amp will run into 4 Ohms OK, but there is no real satisfactory way to compensate if not - unless you run TWO speakers in series at each location.

What model amp and speakers ?

I see from here it say 8 Ohm impedence from the amp sorry, i cant really do that with the speakers because i dont have four of them cant give u model number for the speakers really as they are not well known brand...

If i did wire them up would i run the risk of damaging the amp/speakers?

I think for speaker systems etc you want impedance bridging as voltage to the load is more important than power transfer.

I dont know how you go about it though.

ok :/ might go into a local home entertainment outlet see what they suggest... they will probs just say, 'Well if u look over here sir, you will see these nice big speakers. Will fit quite nicely with the system you have for a mere £30000' but we'll see
