Difference between ntsc and PAL dvd`s

    Hi all ,

I hope I have the right place to post this question..

I want to buy the latest Avengers( 17 disk Emma Peel episodes with previously unseen episodes) dvd box set but so far it is only available in NTSC region 1 format...if i play it on a region free dvd player and my PAL digital telly will the quality be really bad?

Can not find any info on a region 2 relase at all....

    thanks

    John

PAL has a slightly higher resoultion than NTSC, but this depends on the DVD. Some NTSC discs maybe enhanced NTSC, in that case they will have a higher resoultion than a standard PAL DVD. In the same way some PAL DVD's maybe enhanced PAL, in this case they have the highest of all DVD resoultions. (not inc HD-DVD ofc)

Having said all that, you won't notice much if any difference between PAL and NTSC DVD quality.

of course, your TV will have to handle the NTSC signal being sent by the DVD player. Many older sets don't.

    NTSC DVD resolution: 720 x 480
    PAL DVD resolution: 720 x 576

NTSC DVD framerate: 24 or 30 or a mix of both
    PAL DVD framerate: 25

    Hi all and thanks,

Already ordered the box set now , my newest telly is an Evesham 32'' Alqemi S LCD TV. Hopefully this will work fine-ish?

The strange thing is , at least to me , the price difference between USA and Uk prices .Europe prices for the avengers box set seem to be about £100-120 and sometimes more...USA it works out at £50 even if i can done for 17.5% vat its a big saving

yeah, but interlaced NTSC content is always a let-down compared to PAL

The NTSC colour space is a little different to PAL, so thanks can sometime look a little odd, usually a little on the orange side. I think things are better than they used to be however.

Luckily the best Emma Peel avengers were the black and white ones so this will not be a problem I hope
